Catawba Lodge has had an active involvement in the Camp Grimes
program this year that has not been seen in years. Arrowmen campers,
under the guidance of John Mickey, our Camp Chief, have helped to
bring the magic back to our Friday night Call Outs. The flaming
torches coming across Lake Calhoun to the beat of the drum in the
dusk of the North Carolina mountains is an experience that the young
campers will remember well into the future.
Dustin Counts, Chief, and Sam Spence, Vice Chief of Inductions
decided that the easiest way to involve willing Arrowmen in the
weekly ceremonies was to hand them a torch. With their prior
planning and coordination, scores of torches were built at 2nd
Ordeal for use at camp. Arrowmen with canoeing merit badge paddle
the Call Out team. A role in creating the magic is found for
everyone.
