Dixie Fellowship this year was hosted by Muscogee Lodge at Camp
Barstow in South Carolina. It can be said for certain that all of
those who attended enjoyed themselves. Even through the
rain and mud which left a creek running through our campsite, aptly
named Wateree, the sun came out and it turned out to be a very
pretty weekend.
We did very well on the Quest Events this year winning quite a few
and taking high places in others. Colby Torrence did the Rope Throw
and came in first place, successfully overcoming the massive log he
was supposed to lift. Alex Da’Mour rode the Catawba Lodge Chariot
for the Chariot Race around the track a full minute faster than the
second place team. One unique event this year was the War Canoe
Race, which was a giant 7 man canoe. We were the first lodge to
attempt this event and managed to set the pace for the rest of the
lodges at 2 minutes and 32 seconds, taking first, again. No youth in
the lodge can

remember the last time that Catawba Lodge won the Tug
Of War, but we did this year because of teamwork and strategy. It
was a great experience for the team as it taught them how to work
well together and figure out how to overcome obstacles such as how
to deal with winning on the side of the rope that nobody had won on
before. The Cross Country team we put together took a close second
place in the section to Muscogee, who had three runners on the team
that are All-State in South Carolina. Overall Catawba Lodge took
third place in the Quest Events.
But the Quest was not our only high points at Dixie. As has become
tradition the Catawba Lodge Totem Pole won first place, special
thanks to all the youth and adults that were involved. Our Lodge’s
training, “Mock Chapter Meeting,” was a success, taking second place
in Knowledge in Training. Our Lodge Planbook, Website, and
Newsletter all took third place. Marcus Douthitt’s brilliant Grass
Dance regalia took second in the Parade of Braves.
The spirit award this year went to Bob White with their Mexican
theme. Everybody in their lodge had sombreros and Spanish blankets.
Atta Kulla Kulla took Lodge of the Year and did so in style.

At the end of the weekend we had a new twist, for the second year in
a row our Lodge Chief was selected to serve as the Section Chief.
Dustin Counts will now follow Frank Sturges in leading the section
and planning next years Dixie Fellowship, to be held at Knox Scout
Reservation. Dustin looks forward to the upcoming year as Section
Chief and is prepared for the challenge.
I’d like to thank all those who came out for helping to make it a
fabulous weekend. We hope to see you next year! - Nathan Hammond,
